The system of claim 5 wherein the central station further comprises a plurality of tone generators and tone detectors, each tone generator and tone detector coupled to a respective line port, and wherein each user station further comprises a tone generator and a tone detector coupled to the telephony circuit, each tone generator generating audible conferencing signals and each tone detector detecting the audible conferencing signals.
