The system of claim 19 wherein each user digital computer further includes a memory for storing a common set of data objects and a monitor for displaying data objects, and at least two user sites are joined in a data collaboration conference by the mode selector of respective user stations switching to data mode and the central selector means switching respective computer ports to pass-through mode, and wherein the respective user digital computers of the at least two user sites transmit and receive annotation signals to and from the host digital computer to annotate a common data object.
